Real-time information

Thanks to its investments in innovation, Val Thorens has been awarded the status of "Best Ski Resort in the World" four times. Within the resort, all the actors and sectors of activity work together to offer the best experience. The resort is organized as a "Smart Ski Resort": a resort that is more connected, safer and offers more possibilities.

For several decades now, Europe's highest ski resort has been known for these initiatives. One of the latest projects, the Val Thorens Club, helps you find unforgettable activities in the resort. Another recent example, the ski school Les Bâtons allows you for the first time to follow your ski lessons through an application.

In particular, the ecosystem that has been developed to manage the safety of skiers in the event of an emergency is a model for the sector. The resort makes it a point of honor to welcome its guests so that their stay is in the best conditions.

Technology for safety

The alpine environment remains dangerous and subject to numerous hazards that the ski area managers must manage to control. That's why the resort's teams and ski patrollers have created innovative solutions to make skiing easier and reduce the risks. This is one of the key components of the "Smart Ski Resort".

Val Thorens

Less overcrowded slopes with "ski flux

This tool aims to optimize the fluidity of the ski area. Sensors positioned on the slopes measure the number of skiers. They then transmit this information on 4 giant screens present on the slopes. Skiers can therefore be informed in real time of the number of skiers on the slopes, and choose the most comfortable route for them.

The snowsat technology, to optimize snowmaking on the slopes.

The purpose of this tool is to inform the groomers about the snow depth of the slopes. All Val Thorens groomers are equipped with an integrated screen that informs them in real time about the snow level and the location of other machines on the slopes. This technology allows the groomers to get to where the snow has been depleted by skiers. This is how they can guarantee quality slopes throughout the area.
"Snowsat" is also linked to the snow guns. This allows them to automatically produce artificial snow in an intelligent way.

GPS geolocation to find lost skiers

The Gendloc system makes it possible to geolocate lost skiers who do not know their location. By making a call directly from their smartphones, skiers are located by the resort's teams.
GPS beacons for all the ski patrollers to allow a reactivity and an efficiency in the interventions. Each ski patroller has a GPS beacon in his equipment. He can thus intervene very quickly when he is close to the concerned zone.
Thanks to all these tools put in place by the resort, you can ski in Val Thorens with complete peace of mind!
